Dear lauder’s worldwide; I LOVE makeup! Who doesn’t? I have been an estee girl since I was old enough to realize how much fun makeup is. I would borrow my mom’s double wear foundation, electric blue eyeshadow, and pink lip pencil and strut around the house in my legwarmers pretending I was Debbie Gibson (or actually sometimes just singing the theme from rainbow brite). Once I was old enough to wear clothes that match and makeup to go with it, I relied heavily on estee’s entire diverse line of products. When I became vegan I sat back with a little smile on my face - knowing- that my cosmetics routine would not change. I advocated your perfumes to vegan friends, I fell in love with your sister company, MAC, and I was a tried and true fan of everything under the estee umbrella. Today is a horribly sad day for me, your customer, and for the millions of customers out there who will now not support your company until you change your practices. It’s 2012 and you are going BACKWARDS!!!! Horrific tests on defenseless animals is about as on trend as oil spills, clubbing seals, and Snooki, yet not only are you going back on your word - but you’re doing so for Chinese regulations! There is something anti American and dirty about that. Animal tests have been proven as inefficient, cruel, and have been cited by even your company personally to be a waste of resources. There are so many other cosmetics companies that have similar, and arguably, BETTER, products that I will buy. Tarte, Urban Decay, even frigging physicians formula, do NOT test on animals, do NOT cave to whims of the Chinese, and will be getting my support from now on. Take your double wear, your MAC liquid liner, and your customer base back to your roots, or just suffer domestically while you sell out to the highest yuan.
My open letter to estee lauder
